Jaron Ennis believes he’s a unique fighter.
From his dynamic and eye-catching offense to his slick defense, the Philadelphia star believes he has it all. With that kind of talent, Ennis believes he can spot equally-gifted fighters from a mile away.
“He’s definitely nice,” Ennis told Matchroom Boxing when asked to give his thoughts on promotional stablemate Ben Whittaker. “He be having fun. Kind of similar to what I do. Have fun and put on a show. I like his style.”
On June 27 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, their pair will compete on the same card. In the main event, Ennis will attempt to become a two-division champ when he takes on Xander Zayas for his WBA and WBO junior middleweight titles. Light heavyweight Whittaker (11-0-1, 8 KOs) takes on Richard Rivera in his American debut.
Since a contentious draw with Liam Cameron in 2024, the talented 175-pounder has been impressive, beating Cameron in the rematch before demolishing overmatched Benjamin Gavazi and Braian Suarez in a round each. Ennis can’t wait to see what he can do up close.
“He’s real sharp and smart,” Ennis continued. “He plays around when he wants to and he goes for the kill when he wants to. That’s me. I’m the same type of way. Our styles are fan-friendly.”
The Ring’s No. 5 junior middleweight is on a ruthless streak of his own. The smooth switcher-hitter has two stoppage wins in a row and will be looking to make it a hat-trick at the end of the month.
