Keyshawn Davis Comes In Lighter For 140-Pound Debut Than Last 135-Pound Title Fight

NEW YORK – Keyshawn Davis was lighter Friday morning than he was for his last fight.
The difference, of course, is that the former WBO lightweight champion was almost a pound under the contracted limit this time for his 12-round, 140-pound fight against Jamaine Ortiz on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. Davis and Ortiz both weighed 139.2 pounds when they stepped on the New York State Athletic Commission’s scale.
Davis was slightly heavier, 139.3, for what was supposed to be a 12-round defense of his WBO 135-pound title on June 7 in his hometown of Norfolk, Virginia. His opponent, Dominican southpaw Edwin De Los Santos, officially weighed 134.7 pounds.
The Davis-De Los Santos bout was canceled because De Los Santos’ former promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz, wouldn’t allow his fighter to face Davis because of what he considered a dangerous weight disadvantage.
Davis was stripped of his WBO belt. He’ll fight for the first time in 11 months when he opposes Ortiz in the co-feature of “The Ring 6” card headlined by Teofimo Lopez and Shakur Stevenson.
The official weights for all five fights on “The Ring 6” show are listed below.
DAZN PPV for non-subscribers ($69.99 in the U.S.; £24.99 in the UK). DAZN Ultimate ($44.99 monthly; £24.99). 8 p.m. ET; 5 p.m. PT.
