Devin Haney is willing to prove he’s the best fighter in the world against all comers.
In his quest to prove that he’s head and shoulders above the competition, he may find himself standing across the ring from Keyshawn Davis one day as the two have gone back-and-forth over a possible fight in recent weeks.
Against most, Haney (33-0, 15 KOs, 1 NC) has the advantage in skills, but according to Tim Bradley, that won’t be the case if he fought Davis.
“[Davis] has every skill at his disposal man, he does. He’s more skilled than Haney, way more skilled than Haney,” Bradley said on his YouTube channel. “Haney is of course more accomplished but [Davis] got more skills than Haney.”
In November on "The Ring IV: Night of Champions", Haney was doubted heading into his welterweight title fight against Brian Norman Jr. Despite fighting at 147 pounds for the first time in his career, Haney dropped his man in the second round before winning by unanimous decision to pick up the WBO welterweight crown.
Davis made a statement of his own in the co-feature of "The Ring 6" on January 31. In front of a sold-out crowd in New York’s Madison Square Garden, he dominated Jamaine Ortiz in his junior welterweight debut, eventually stopping him in the 12th.
Immediately after, Davis (14-0, 10 KOs, 1 NC) called Haney out. It didn’t take long for the three-division champion to retort that he would love to fight Davis next.
With both sides showing interest, a matchup between them could be in the works. Bradley, undoubtedly wants to see it. And while he considers Haney a terrific fighter, he doesn’t believe he’ll be able to handle what Davis brings to the table.
“Haney’s really good and he’s a technical fighter,” Bradley continued. “He’s great at what he does but Keyshawn has more skills at his disposal and he knows when to use them. You can say he’s young yeah, and he’s not mature like Haney. Haney is mature as hell and he knows how to make his style work for him.
"But Keyshawn got more skills, more talent, and I feel like he's got [more] power.”
