A rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao is set for September 19 at Sphere in Las Vegas.
Netflix officially announced Monday afternoon that the legends will square off again in what is expected to be an official fight. The Ring first reported earlier Monday that Mayweather-Pacquiao II was planned for September in Las Vegas, with Sphere in the running to host the huge event.
The Ring reported in October the pair were in talks for a money-spinning sequel. Sphere, a unique venue that opened just off the famed Vegas Strip in September 2023, can seat up to 20,000 fans for combat sports and held UFC 306 in September 2024.
Last week, Mayweather, who will turn 49 on Tuesday, announced he would be making a return to the sport in a professional capacity after his April 25 exhibition with Mike Tyson.
“I already fought and beat Manny once,” Mayweather said in Netflix’s press release. “This time will be the same result.”
Pacquiao returned to the ring July 19 in Las Vegas, where he challenged Mario Barrios for his WBC welterweight title. Their 12-round fight ended in a majority draw.
Pacquiao, 47, is also set for an April 18 exhibition against Ruslan Provodnikov at UNLV's Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Five months later, he will attempt to avenge his loss to Mayweather.
“Floyd and I gave the world what remains the biggest fight in boxing history,” Pacquiao said in Netflix’s release. “The fans have waited long enough – they deserve this rematch, and it will be even bigger now that it will be streamed live globally on Netflix. I want Floyd to live with the one loss on his professional record and always remember who gave it to him. As always, I dedicate this fight to my fellow Filipinos around the world and to bringing glory to the Philippines.”
Mayweather-Pacquiao II will take place more than 11 years after their first meeting, which remains the most lucrative fight in boxing history after generating more than $600 million overall revenue. Their long-awaited welterweight title fight produced a record 4.4 million pay-per-view buys and more than $72 million at the gate.
Mayweather won by unanimous decision in what many considered to be a letdown of a fight.
