Christian Mbilli could not have prepared any better.
The WBC super middleweight champion knows that he’s in for the fight of his life when he takes on Canelo Alvarez at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on a DAZN pay-per-view.
With so much at stake, Mbilli (29-0, 24 KOs) is confident his hard work will pay off.
“My training camp was perfect,” Mbilli said during Thursday’s press conference. “It was the best camp for me. I was born ready for this fight.”
Yet, despite that perfection, oddsmakers don’t exactly believe him, as Alvarez is a sizable favorite.
That lack of belief might stem from his last fight. The Ring’s No. 3 super middleweight contender was forced to settle for a split draw against Lester Martinez in September 2025 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
On that same card, ironically enough, Alvarez (63-3-2, 39 KOs) graced the main event slot against Terence Crawford. The Guadalajara, Jalisco, native and pound-for-pound star lost a close but clear unanimous decision.
Alvarez, while 36, promises to punish Mbilli. The former four-division champion underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left elbow shortly after his defeat to Crawford.
Alvarez’s threats, ultimately, come across as hollow to the relentless Mbilli. With their showdown just hours away, he’s patiently watching the clock and waiting for fight night.
“I can’t wait to be in the ring,” Mbilli continued. “I’m ready for this fight; I’m ready to shock the world. I have a big respect for Canelo and his career, but on Saturday, it will be a different story.”
