Reigning two-division world champion Mikaela Mayer has a new promotional home.
Mayer (22-2, 5 KOs) has been open about wanting the final phase of her career to feature legacy-defining fights across weight divisions and in joining an ever-growing MVP stable, those bouts should be made easier.
"I'm thrilled to join Most Valuable Promotions as we continue breaking barriers and elevating women's boxing to new heights," Mayer said in a press release Friday.
"I've always wanted the biggest and best fights, and MVP's premier roster of women champions creates incredible opportunities to make those matchups happen. I'm looking forward to showcasing my skills on some of the sport's biggest platforms and working with a passionate, innovative team that believes in the continued growth of women's boxing."
Mayer told The Ring in late 2025 that she was approached by MVP prior to her dominant win over Mary Spencer, one which added gloss on a future Hall of Fame career on away soil in Canada. Her existing deal with career-long promoter, Top Rank, stymied those ambitious overtures but only delayed what seemed an inevitable decision.
This announcement comes after increased speculation surrounding a potential fight pitting her against former Olympic teammate and undisputed heavyweight champion Claressa Shields, who she watched skilfully outpoint Franchon Crews-Dezurn in their February 21 rematch.
The 35-year-old's promotional contract expired in early 2026, leaving her a free agent open to explore offers elsewhere. Per a report from FightPost's Mark Baldwin, she was in talks for a two-fight deal elsewhere which included a middleweight matchup with Shields towards the year's end.
Frustrated by having to wait more than a year - through various reasons - for an undisputed clash against Ring and unified welterweight champion Lauren Price, MVP's stable has plenty she can keep occupied with in the interim.
IBF junior middleweight world champion Oshae Jones (9-0, 3 KOs) was among MVP's recent additions, and she shares a close friendship with Mayer. Chantelle Cameron faces Czech's Michaela Kotaskova for the WBO title Mayer left vacant in January as part of the Dubois-Harper bill on April 5, and is another possibility.
Shields (18-0, 3 KOs) tested her value on the market before inking a lucrative extension to remain with longtime promoter Dmitry Salita last year, with the Crews-Dezurn rematch being the first of a four-fight deal.
She has been open about wanting to test herself against Ring and unified middleweight champion Shadasia Green and did so again post-fight last month, while talk of a Mayer matchup has steadily bubbled for over a year now.
