Brandon Figueroa reclaimed championship gold with aplomb on enemy territory in Liverpool against forward-charging Nick Ball, whose defences were brutally breached late on in their competitive clash.
Brandon Figueroa (27-2-1, 20 KOs) left it late before producing his 20th stoppage as a professional to silence Liverpool's M&S Bank Arena crowd, ripping away the WBA featherweight world title from home hero Nick Ball.
During a back-and-forth battle at 126 pounds, the Texan immediately asserted himself as the more active puncher and while Ball was far more efficient (43.9% to 28.3%) with his punch connects, felt he had to maintain an exhausting pace to do so.
Figueroa didn't use his jab much, instead opting to unload power shots and the 177 he did manage represented a new career-high number on Ball, whose defensive holes were laid bare as both men pushed for a late finish.
Ball (249 of 567) outlanded Figueroa in all but one of their 11 completed rounds, though several were separated by three punch connects or less during a nip-and-tuck tussle where neither wanted to relinquish ground.
Figueroa's body work (94 of his 214 landed punches) paid dividends in a big way and now, aged 29, more doors will open up after claiming his third world title in a second weight division.
