Reito Tsutsumi, widely regarded as a Japanese boxing prodigy, will make his pro debut May 2 in Times Square, New York, in a six-round junior lightweight fight, sources told The Ring.
Tsutsumi, who lost just twice in 61 amateur fights, will face Chicago’s Levale Whittington (1-2-1, 1 KOs).
Tsutsumi’s highly anticipated pro debut will serve as the the lone undercard fight to support the Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves pay-per-view card featuring Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez in separate fights.
"Since I was a child, I have dreamed of competing in the professional boxing world," Tsutsumi, 22, told The Ring last month. "Becoming a world champion is just a stepping stone - if I'm going to do this, I want to be the best.
"My ultimate goal is to become the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world."
Tsutsumi, a southpaw from Chiba City, is the younger brother of Hayato Tsutsumi, a 6-0 junior lightweight.
Garcia will fight Rolly Romero in the main event May 2, while Haney faces Jose Ramirez and Lopez defends his Ring Magazine junior welterweight championship against Arnold Barboza Jr.
