Former undisputed junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo is set to end his three-plus-year layoff in Australia.
Charlo has reportedly gotten his visa approved and been cleared for an Australian trip to fight on the undercard of Tim Tszyu's title challenge against WBA middleweight beltholder Erislandy Lara.
That's according to Main Event TV, Australia's PPV event channel that distributes Tszyu's fights. A similar report has since featured in Fox Sports Australia, saying several local fighters have been linked as a potential foe.
Lara-Tszyu was announced in Australia on October 13 by promoter No Limit Boxing without a date, city, venue or broadcast details. No Limit chief George Rose promised surprises on the undercard and it appears Charlo will play a chief supporting role against a yet-to-be-announced opponent.
"Iron Man" Charlo (35-2-1, 19 KOs) hasn't fought since 2023, when moving up two divisions to unsuccessfully challenge then-undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez. The Mexican superstar knocked down Charlo in the fourth round and cruised to a comfortable points win.
Charlo, a native of Houston, has fought just four times this decade, just like his twin brother Jermall.
Jermall was also slated to fight in Australia on the undercard of Tszyu's unanimous decision win against Errol Spence, but his visa wasn't approved, and a bout vs. Koen Mazoudier was scrapped one week beforehand.
The fight was rescheduled for October 17, but an undisclosed injury forced Jermall to withdraw once more. Mazoudier fought to a competitive decision defeat against former WBA 168-pound titleholder Armando Resendiz.
Jermell will likely be matched against a domestic fighter from Down Under, similar to Mazoudier.
