Shadasia Green remains in ICU after suffering a brain bleed in her knockout loss to Lani Daniels on Friday in New York.
The former Ring, IBF and WBO super middleweight champion, who was stopped in the ninth round after taking a barrage of punches at Infosys Theater at Madison Square Garden, provided promising updates on her condition on social media Sunday.
“With everything in me, I wanna thank those who had great concern and even the people who figured out during the fight something was wrong,” Green wrote on Instagram. “I passed out due to bleeding out of my brain. However, I am in ICU on the road to healing. I'll be back to get what's mine.”
Green (16-2, 11 KOs) gave another update on Facebook, saying she doesn’t need surgery and that she’s on medication to reduce the swelling in her brain. The Paterson, New Jersey, native added that the size of the brain bleed was nine millimeters.
Green, who was a 6-1 favorite, was in obvious distress after she was placed on her stool in her corner and tending to by doctors immediately after the knockout.
She ultimately left the ring on a stretcher and was rushed to a local hospital. At the start of the main event, Alycia Baumgardner vs. Bo Mi Re Shin, TV commentator Crystina Poncher reported that Green was alert as she left the arena.
