A fight between Shakur Stevenson and Gervonta Davis is on the shortlist for being one of the best bouts that American boxing can deliver.
The sad reality is that a clash has never come close to materializing despite them circling each other for several years. Stevenson has frequently called for the fight, and Davis has previously said that Stevenson is on his “hit list” without pressing much further.
Stevenson and Davis have had to answer questions about each other for years. But in 2026, Stevenson is drawing a line when it comes to constant conversation centered on his rival.
“I would love [to fight him], but at the end of the day, once again, if somebody says they're never going to fight me, f—k you. I don’t need you, bro,” Stevenson said on the “7PM in Brooklyn,” a Wave Original show hosted by basketball star Carmelo Anthony.
“Man, I ain't going to lie. I'm going to keep it a hundred with y'all. I don't really like talking about him because the way that he moves is goofy to me. It's some weird s—t. So I really don't like speaking on him … If anybody has issues with me or feels some type of way about me, you could come see me on fight night and resolve every issue that you have. I stand by that with anybody.”
Stevenson (25-0, 11 KOs) is coming off a career-best win against Teofimo Lopez in January and is now The Ring and WBO junior welterweight champion. Stevenson is also rated No. 1 by The Ring at 135 pounds and is The Ring’s No. 3-ranked pound-for-pound fighter.
Ever since beating Lopez, the four-division champion Stevenson has maintained that he’s willing to make the biggest fights possible at 135 and 140 pounds, and even catchweights for fighters who are much bigger than him.
Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs), meanwhile, appears headed toward a rematch against Isaac Cruz later this summer.
“Through the years, I gave these guys [Davis and Devin Haney] credit, but when it really came down to it, I always knew I'm the one,” said Stevenson. “I always knew. And I feel like deep down, they probably won't say it, but they know … If any fighter has an issue with me, sign the contract, turn the lights on bright, let millions come around to see what’s happening and pull up on me.
“I know what I'm built with. I know for a fact when the lights get bright, it's millions of people that's watching around the world and they see you in that ring, I know I'm going to step up to the plate regardless. I'm not one of them dudes that got b—h me, so I know what I'm built with. I turned it up for Teo because of the stakes, but I'm the truth. I've been the truth for years and years and people ignored it because I wasn't getting the names and the guys that they know of, but I'm the guy. There's nobody that's better than me in the sport of boxing.
“I'm the best boxer. I'm the best at the art of boxing. I've been saying this for years. The art of boxing is hit, don't get hit. I'm mastering it, but once I’ve mastered it and my legacy is sealed, I want to be known for being the best boxer. Greater than Floyd Mayweather, greater than Terrance Crawford, all of them.”
