Stephen Fulton is is taking nothing for granted against former title challenger Liam Wilson.
The 130-pounders are scheduled to fight on the Errol Spence Jr.-Tim Tszyu card July 25 at Afterpay Arena in Tszyu's hometown of Sydney on Prime Video Pay-Per-View.
Wilson, 30, has shared the ring with a few top-level names – including Oscar Valdez and Emanuel Navarrete – but he has come up short in his biggest fights. He is, however, on a five-fight winning streak.
Fulton knows that a win for Wilson (18-3, 10 KOs) could be life-changing for the Aussie.
“I expect Liam to be on his 'A' game and take this fight as an opportunity to get a shot at the title,” Fulton said in a Premier Boxing Champions news release.
Fulton (23-2, 8 KOs) wasn't on his own 'A' game in his last outing, against 130-pound titleholder O'Shaquie Foster last December. He came in two pounds over the limit for what would've been a chance to become a three-division champion and then lost a one-sided decision.
Th 31-year-old Philadelphian says he has put that defeat behind him. Now, he's determined to demonstrate that he can still be a major player at junior lightweight.
“This fight is to show that I am nowhere near finished and to redeem myself after my last performance,” Fulton said. “I let my fans and peers down in my last fight, as well as myself. So this is me coming back out strong.”
