Terence Crawford was found guilty of careless driving on Monday and fined $75 for a September 28 traffic stop in which Nebraska police ordered him and three other passengers out of his vehicle at gunpoint.
Crawford was also ordered to pay $49 in court costs.
The incident occurred hours after Crawford’s parade had culminated in Omaha celebrating his career-defining win against Canelo Alvarez earlier in the month.
Police pulled Crawford over after spotting a vehicle they said was being driven recklessly. During the stop, Crawford’s head of security, Qasim Shabazz, informed an officer that he was carrying a legally owned firearm. Crawford also communicated that he had a legal firearm.
Moments later, an officer on the driver’s side noticed a gun on the floorboard, which prompted officers to draw their weapons and order Crawford, Shabazz and passengers George Williams and Nadia Metoyer out of the car.
Authorities confirmed on the scene that all individuals in the vehicle were legally authorized to carry firearms. Crawford was issued a citation and released.
The incident prompted the Omaha police chief to launch an internal review of the officers’ conduct. Following the investigation, the chief determined that the officers had acted within the law.
In December, Shabazz, Williams and Metoyer filed a federal lawsuit against Omaha's police chief and more than a dozen officers for their conduct. The lawsuit alleged Crawford and the three passengers were handcuffed for 30 minutes, while police chief Todd Schmaderer said they were handcuffed for 10 minutes.
The 38-year-old Crawford (42-0, 31 KOs) retired in December following a 17-year career.
