Tyson Fury has made his plans very clear: Another tune-up bout in August, a fight against Anthony Joshua by the end of the year, and a third meeting against Oleksandr Usyk in the first quarter of 2027.
Nowhere to be found on Fury’s docket are dances against WBO champion Daniel Dubois, or the opponent the former WBC champion detonated earlier this month, Fabio Wardley.
“It’s like EFL League One versus UEFA Champions League,” Fury said on his YouTube channel, FurociTV. “Although they had a good fight together, we’ve seen what happens when Dubois steps up to the Premier League. They don’t really do anything for me. … They’re very good fighting men, but there’s not a lot of avoided punches in there [between them].
“It’s just mainly giving and taking it. I'm not going to go off track. At my age now, I've got to capitalize on making as much as I can, while I can. You know what I mean?”
Although Fury is not looking for a fight against Wardley (20-1-1, 19 KOs), who will likely have to rest for a while before rebuilding his career after a brutal battle and 11th-round stoppage loss, or Dubois (23-3, 22 KOs), “The Gypsy King” was complimentary of the latter.
“I thought Dubois would win inside the distance,” Fury said. “It was an unbelievable fight. Dubois came through a lot of sticky patches and he had a lot of moments where, if he was going to quit, he could have done it. Dubois obviously gets called a quitter a lot because he’s taken a knee in three fights [knockout losses to Oleksandr Usyk twice and Joe Joyce]. But he definitely showed that he’s there for the long haul.
“I think they left Wardley in two rounds too long. He took a fair [beating] and I don’t know if he’s going to be right again after that for a long time. But he’s always going to be involved in interesting fights because he can really punch, and he’s really brave and game. And the thing with Daniel is he’s so young. He’s a two-time world champion. He’s only 28 years old. He’s like a decade younger than us, than myself, than Usyk, than all these people. So, when we’re all finished and retired, he’s still got years to go.”
Fury (35-2-1, 24 KOs), a former two-time heavyweight champion, returned from a fifth retirement April 11. The 37-year-old Fury scored a unanimous-decision win against Arslanbek Makhmudov (21-3, 19 KOs) at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
