Zayas plans to walk over Ennis: ‘He eats every straight punch’

If you ask Xander Zayas, all that glitters is not gold when it comes to Jaron “Boots” Ennis.
“He eats every straight punch. He eats every hook. There are a lot of things I can take advantage of,” Zayas told The Ring.
Zayas (23-0, 13 KOs), the WBA and WBO 154-pound champion, will find out if his proclamations are true when he defends his titles against Ennis (35-0, 31 KOs) on June 27 at Barclays Center in New York, as part of a DAZN Pay-Per-View/DAZN Ultimate main event.
"People are OK with being average in life. I wasn't born to be average. I was born to make history – this is no exception, against the biggest test," Zayas said. 'I am going to write history one more time. That's what it's all about, and that's why we are in this sport."
Zayas has been getting a boatload of credit for accepting the challenge, and deservedly so, considering the 23-year-old could have slow-played his title reign. But after collecting both of his crowns in back-to-back fights with decision wins against Jorge Garcia Perez in July and Abass Baraou in January, Zayas’ zeal couldn’t be zapped.
"It's easy to get complacent, fighting old champions and easy fights you know you are going to win to get easy money," Zayas continued. "But when everything is on the line and a lot of people doubt you, that's when the stakes are high. That's when I perform at my best."
"I made the fight because it was something that I wanted, and I am confident that I am going to win on June 27. I've always said yes to all of the big names in the division."
"It was an easy negotiation. We both wanted the fight. The fans wanted and we made it happen ... it was super easy [making the fight] behind the scenes. When both want it, it's an easy conversation to have."
While the negotiation was easy, the encounter will be anything but that for Zayas, who is listed as a +300 betting underdog.
