Carlos Adames has a new promotional home.
Zuffa Boxing announced Tuesday that it signed the WBC middleweight champion. Adames (25-1-1, 18 KOs) is The Ring’s No. 1-rated middleweight for its vacant title.
“This is a new chapter in my career, and I’m here to make history," Adames said via press release. "Zuffa Boxing is building something special, and I want to be part of it. I’m ready to face the best fighters in the world on the biggest stage. The best of ‘Caballo Bronco’ is yet to come.”
Zuffa added that an announcement for Adames’ next fight will be made in the near future.
Adames, 32, is coming off a dominant unanimous decision over Austin “Ammo” Williams on March 21 in Orlando. The Dominican dropped Williams in the second round before coasting to the one-sided victory.
The Adames signing gives Zuffa three of the four titleholders at 160 pounds, including IBF champion Aaron McKenna and WBO titleholder Denzel Bentley.
McKenna (21-0, 10 KOs), The Ring’s No. 3 middleweight, won the then-vacant IBF title with a unanimous decision over Etinosa Oliha in the main event of Zuffa Boxing 10. Bentley (22-3-1, 18 KOs) will make his debut against Shane Mosley Jr. in the co-main event of Chris Billam-Smith versus Cheavon Clarke on November 7 at Copper Box Arena in London.
