Benn and Garcia continued to exchange insults during a heated press conference Saturday at Fanatics Fest in New York. Security had to keep the two apart after they tried to go face-to-face in the middle of the promotional stop for their welterweight title fight September 12 in Las Vegas.

“I know you’re getting all excited, but I’ll come over there and smack them glasses straight off your face,” Benn quipped. “That’s what I’ll do.”

“You won’t do s***,” Garcia quickly responded. “I promise you you won’t do s***.”

“Who won’t do s***?” Benn said after they were kept apart. “I’ll smack you up and make you quit. You have no heart. You’re not Mexican.”

Garcia, of Victorville, California, will make his first defense of the WBC 147-pound championship against England’s Benn at T-Mobile Arena. Their 12-round bout, which will headline a Ring card, will be streamed by Paramount+ in the United States and DAZN in the UK and Ireland.

Garcia (25-2, 20 KOs, 1 NC), The Ring’s No. 5-ranked welterweight, won the WBC welterweight title with a dominant unanimous-decision victory over Mario Barrios on February 21 at T-Mobile Arena. The 27-year-old Garcia dropped Barrios (29-3-2, 18 KOs) within the first 30 seconds of their bout before coasting to his first victory since December 2023.

Garcia’s majority-decision victory over rival Devin Haney in April 2024 was changed to a no-contest because he tested positive for ostarine, a banned substance.

Benn (25-1, 14 KOs) will fight at the welterweight limit of 147 pounds for the first time since April 2022. Benn, 29, last fought at a catch weight of 150 pounds when he outpointed former two-time 140-pound champion Regis Prograis in a 10-round fight on April 11 at Tottenham Stadium in London.

Benn promised during their war of words Saturday to emphatically rip Garcia’s WBC welterweight title from his grasp.

“It don’t make no difference to me what he does,“ Benn said. “Ultimately, I can’t wait to put my fist through his head [and] through his skull on September 12. He can talk and throw his toys and have his little flare-ups and tantrums, things that he does. It don’t make no difference to me.”
