As first reported by The Ring this week, the 25-year-old has decided to split from trainer McGuigan after spending the entirety of her professional career with him so far.

During the four years and five months since her debut in February 2022, McGuigan has guided Dubois (13-0-1, 5 KOs) to Ring, WBO and WBC lightweight titles and her current position as one of the world's best female fighters.

But the London southpaw admits she felt a change was needed in order to truly dominate the women’s game, despite barely putting a foot wrong with her former coach.

During an interview with The Ring’s Louis Hart on Tuesday, Dubois said: “There have been a few reasons [for leaving McGuigan] but I’m not going to go into them.

“At the end of the day, all I can deal with is the facts and the facts is that I’m so happy with what we’ve achieved, with where I’m at and so excited for the future.

“But another fact is that I want to be better, do better, don’t want to just win, I want to take over and dominate. You have to train to dominate, to push yourself and I think the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result.

“If you want something you’ve never had, you’ve got to do something you’ve never done.”

For Dubois that means a complete overhaul in not only her training set up but life in general after deciding to move to Southern California to train under Robles.

The Mexico-born coach is famous for steering Andy Ruiz to one of the biggest upsets in heavyweight boxing history when he beat Anthony Joshua to become world heavyweight champion in 2019. Dubois says she has already noticed a new level of training intensity during her first month in America.

“I’m moving my life all the way across to the States,” she added. “I’m leveling up with my training, it has gone up in intensity and I’m hoping that will help get the best with me.

“I’m working with Manny Robles, I’ve been with him for three weeks now and it has been really good, really positive, I’ve got great sparring and the work is good. He’s got a really good set-up, it’s not just him, he’s got his son and three other coaches there.

“There’s good energy and he’s got some good fighters in the gym, Andy Ruiz is there, Ramon Cardenas is there. I’m just happy to be in an exciting gym.”

When contacted by The Ring, McGuigan confirmed that their decision tio split was both mutual and amicable and confirmed that he will still have a hand in her career in a management capacity.

He told The Ring: “After many successful years of coaching and training Caroline, installing a professional boxing style going from pro debut to unified world champion we have mutually decided it’s best to part ways as trainer and boxer.

“We have a good relationship and will continue to support Caroline’s career as her management team working closely with MVP & Sky Sports to deliver her the biggest and best fights.”

Dubois’ first fight with Robles will take place on August 29 when she faces Colorado’s Amelia Moore (4-0, 1 KO) on the undercard of the MVP event headlined by Chantelle Cameron against Mikaela Mayer in Birmingham.
