Amari Jones will face Vincenzo Gualtieri in the main event of a Golden Boy Promotions card on May 22 at SAP Center in San Jose, California.
Jones, The Ring’s No. 10-ranked middleweight, is coming off the most impressive win of his career, a fourth-round stoppage of Luis Arias. Jones (16-0, 14 KOs) dropped Arias twice before his corner halted the bout between the fourth and fifth rounds.
Jones, 23, of Oakland, California, is ranked No. 4 by the IBF and No. 15 by the WBC.
Gualtieri (25-1-1, 8 KOs), of Wuppertal, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, previously won the IBF middleweight title with a unanimous decision victory over Esquiva Falcao in July 2023. He lost the title three months later in his next fight, a unification bout against WBO titleholder Janibek Alimkhanuly.
Gualtieri, 33, has since won four straight fights in his home country. He is ranked No. 5 by the IBF and No. 10 by the WBO.
Golden Boy Promotions also announced that undefeated cruiserweight contender Robin Safar (19-0, 13 KOs) will be in the co-feature against an opponent to be named later. Safar is The Ring’s No. 9-ranked cruiserweight.
