Shakur Stevenson is still the No. 1 target of Bill and Devin Haney.
However, while the rivals continue to do their best to hammer out a deal centered around a massive 144-pound catchweight bout, Keyshawn Davis keeps banging on the Haneys' door.
The 2020 Olympic silver medalist was recently made the No. 1 contender for Haney’s WBO welterweight title. That's just another reason Davis (15-0, 10 KOs, 1 NC) is a viable option for Haney (33-0, 15 KOs) should negotiations with Stevenson fall through.
“If your brother don’t take the fight, you're next,” Bill Haney, Devin's father and trainer, told Davis on the Cigar Talk Podcast. “We’ll see you when we see you. You're next.”
Stevenson, The Ring and WBO junior welterweight champion, has seemed reluctant to move up to the welterweight division. Not Davis. His last fight took place at 140 but he's tired of cutting weight, meaning he'd be happy to face Haney at 147.
He also turned down a fight against Lindolfo Delgado for the vacant IBF 140-pound belt.
Bill Haney acknowledges the value of the WBO title but is seeking the biggest possible matchup for his son.
“I respect the WBO,” the elder Haney said. “I respect the rules. I also believe that boxing belongs to the people. The people have made it clear they want to see Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson share the ring, and we’ll do our part to see if that fight can be made. If not, Keyshawn Davis next.”
