Giorgio Visioli's improvements haven't gone unnoticed, as Matchroom are set to imminently announce the 22-year-old unbeaten lightweight will headline a NXTGN show in December after an active year has seen his profile rise with a Southern Area title fig...
LONDON, England -- After stateside success with a shutout eight-round victory on the Jaron Ennis-Uisma Lima undercard, British prospect Giorgio Visioli will headline a Matchroom show to cap an active 2025 campaign the week before Christmas.
That's according to promotional chief Eddie Hearn and Matchroom CEO Frank Smith, who both confirmed their plans for the unbeaten 22-year-old in conversation with The Ring.
"It was a great performance, he'll now go on to headline in December in the UK and then I want Giorgio to be fighting all over the world," Hearn said upon landing back in the country for Ben Whittaker's introductory press conference as a Matchroom fighter, previewing his Birmingham headliner against Germany's Benjamin Gavazi on November 29.
A few days earlier, Smith spoke highly of the Mark Tibbs-trained prospect, who has settled on campaigning at lightweight after trying to squeeze his 5ft 8in frame towards the 130-pound junior lightweight limit over the past two years.
The Repton amateur graduate won the 2023 Senior Elite Nationals at 140-pounds and has maintained consistency with regular fight camps since his professional debut on the Katie Taylor-Chantelle Cameron II undercard in November that year.
"He's brilliant. He's in a great position, coming out of his shell a little bit too, you see that in the way he presents himself, very confident in and outside the ring, there are big fights for him in the future," Smith told The Ring this past week.
"You've seen the talk of Curmel Moton, his back-and-forths with Zaquin Moses - both were on that card - as long as he continues developing on the trajectory as he has been, it's very exciting for him and we'll have him back out before the end of the year."
Visioli cited his stateside sparring experiences as the launchpad to a bigger profile across the pond and the youngster's handlers have been mindful of sowing seeds with attractive future fights against both Moses and Moton, the latter he sparred earlier this year.
New Jersey southpaw Moses (5-0, 3 KOs) scored a points win over six rounds in Philadelphia and is part of Matchroom's US-based crop of fighters, which includes his older cousin and WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson.
Meanwhile, PBC-backed teenager Moton (8-0, 6 KOs) is considered further along in his journey through the pro ranks after progressing to eight-round contests. He hasn't boxed since a points win over Renny Viamonte as part of May 31's Caleb Plant-Jose Armando Resendiz undercard, though has been teasing fight news on social media in recent weeks.
Tibbs told BoxingScene that while international exposure is beneficial to build his profile, they're still expecting to embrace the traditional route - Southern Area, English and British - much like stablemates Jimmy Sains and George Liddard are exemplifying at middleweight.
"I'd like him to go along that [southern area title] route. Reason being, although he's super skilled and super advanced, he still has to be built mentally, [in his] maturity, and emotionally. We feel that he's got the attributes to be a world champion, [but] he's not the end product yet."
Hearn echoed that sentiment after his fourth-round stoppage win over Kane Baker in Sheffield on April 19, saying he'd push him quicker if the decision was up to him - but management have urged caution and prefer him to bank more rounds. Six months later and with two eight-round points victories against solid opposition later, the pathway is clearer.
