Chris Eubank Jr has stayed true to his word and split £50,000 of his own money between the undercard fighters who were supposed to fight on the undercard for his fight that never was with Conor Benn.
Eubank and Benn were originally set to fight way back on October 8 2022 at the o2 Arena on a show called Born Rivals in reference to their famous fathers’ bitter feud.
However, that show never took place after it was confirmed that Benn had returned adverse findings in two VADA tests with all nine fights scheduled that night cancelled on fight week.
On April 26, two and a half years on from that initial date, Eubank and Benn will finally clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the inaugural Ring Magazine event Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves - live on DAZN PPV.
During the London press conference to formally announce the fight, Eubank revealed that he planned to take £50,000 from his fight purse and distribute it evenly among the fighters on the undercard who did not get paid as a result of the cancellation.
Now it has been confirmed by multiple fighters that 35-year-old Eubank, 34-3 (25), has already transferred their cash with his rearranged Benn fight night still more than a week away.
Ellie Scotney, the now unified super-bantamweight champion of the world, was 5-0 at the time and had been set to box Mary Romero at the o2 that night. Although the pair did fight at Wembley Arena in a rearranged encounter later that month in 2022, Scotney confirmed Eubank has deposited money into her account from the £50k fund.
“Shout out to Chris Eubank Jr,” she wrote on Instagram. “Just checked my eu-BANK statement and Chris was as good as his word. Thank you!”
Light-heavyweight Lyndon Arthur, who will face Anthony Yarde on the undercard at Tottenham next weekend, also confirmed payment from Eubank Jr.
“Gotta respect Eubank Jr,” he wrote on Twitter. “He actually paid what he said he would off the undercard from the first one.”
