But he already knows who he wants to fight after that and is willing to make sacrifices so it can happen.

Garcia hasn't weighed below the 140-pound limit since April 2023. His bout with Devin Haney a year later was supposed to be fought at the junior welterweight limit, but Garcia weighed in three-plus pounds overweight. Despite that, Garcia says it's still possible.

“My strength and conditioning coach said that I can make 140 comfortably,” Garcia said on ESPN’s First Take. “I trust the people in my team around me. If that opportunity presents itself, I would love to fight Shakur Stevenson or we can bring Gervonta [Davis] back from wherever he’s at.”

Monday night on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Garcia seemingly confirmed he would be defending his WBC welterweight title against Benn in September.

Garcia hasn't fought since beating Mario Barrios to win the title in the main event of "The Ring: High Stakeson February 21 in Las Vegas.

It remains to be seen whether Stevenson (25-0, 11 KOs) remains at 140 pounds, where he owns The Ring and WBO titles after ousting Teofimo Lopez on January 31. The four-division champion may yet drop back down to 135 pounds, where he previously held the WBC championship.

Californian Garcia says boxing needs these sort of fights, not least so he can show those who follow the sport he's capable of living up to the potential he has shown since turning pro back in 2016.

“I just want boxing to be at the top,” Garcia continued. “I wanna make these fights happen and I know I can beat these guys.”
