Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn have talked trash to each other for years. But finally, in just a few more days, they’ll put the microphones away and put on the gloves.
Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn have talked trash to each other for years. But finally, in just a few more days, they’ll put the microphones away and put on the gloves.
At the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the United Kingdom this Saturday night, the two will officially get it on. Thanks to the nature of their rivalry, the eyes of the boxing world will be watching. Kell Brook, the former IBF welterweight champion, will also be in attendance.
In terms of form, Benn (23-0, 14 KOs) figures to have the edge. He hasn’t come close to losing a fight in his career and punches with bad intentions. Although Eubank is riding the wave of a two-fight win streak, the size advantage he’ll bring to the ring is what he’s banking on.
Brook loves the thought of their matchup but he's having a difficult time pinpointing who he believes will win.
“I’ve got to favor Eubank in that fight just because of the size and he’s been on a higher level,” said an unsure Brook on iFL TV. “Conor’s not gone to that level yet. It’s an interesting fight, but I lean towards Eubank.”
Nowadays, Brook (40-3, 28 KOs) turns on his television set for fun. Since hanging up his gloves in 2022, the fire he once had dissipated. But, in years past, the former star has been connected to both Eubank and Benn. Of course, nothing came of those rumors but when either of those men are mentioned, there’s a twinkle in Brook’s eye.
It would take a lot to get Brook to dust his gloves off and throw his mouthpiece back in. He spends most of his time with his children, does his best to stay fit, and finds other things to occupy his time. It may sound mundane to some, but Brook is enjoying life outside of boxing. With that said, however, if the winner of Eubank vs. Benn gave him a ring, he’d answer the call and give it another go.
“I’d do it, I’d come back,” continued Brook. “One more, one more.”
