Giorgio Visioli has no intention of letting a potential clash with Curmel Moton marinate after the pair’s Las Vegas run-in.
The 21-year-old lightweight from Aldershot has generated an unlikely rivalry with Moton, the Floyd Mayweather protege from Salt Lake City via Las Vegas.
Visioli (10-0, 6 KOs), the English champion at 135 pounds, first crossed paths with Moton in Las Vegas this time last year when the pair sparred at the Mayweather Gym. The sessions quickly became the focus of much discussion after Visioli’s promoter Eddie Hearn claimed his man had "smashed up" the teenage sensation.
Unsurprisingly, Moton did not take too kindly to the suggestion and confronted Visioli when he resurfaced in Sin City for more sparring earlier this year.
“I think he’s found out on the grapevine that I’m in town,” Visioli tells The Ring of the encounter at the Top Rank Gym. “So he’s stuck it on me with his crew, called me a few names and whatever. “And that was good for me - it went viral, so I couldn’t have asked for anything better really,”
The clips, which have been viewed thousands of times on multiple platforms, show the pair arguing and then eventually agreeing to fight each other for real. Although, in the modern world of boxing where entertaining prospects are not often matched together early on, a fight between them any time soon might seem unlikely.
But Visioli insists he is not pursuing Moton for show and believes a clash between them could be possible this year. The former Repton amateur faces Levi Giles (17-2-1, 4 KOs) in arguably his toughest test to date at the Copper Box on Saturday but then hopes Moton could follow.
He added: “I think the Moton fight needs to happen early. It’s not something we need to wait around for.
“Obviously, at 19 he's quite young so he's going to be growing. So if it does happen, I think maybe in the next year or so and we are hoping for talks after this fight.
“I'm down, it’s just whether he wants to do it. He told me ‘I’m a lightweight so you better be ready’ and I’m thinking to myself ‘you just fought at welterweight, mate.’
“But let’s see how it progresses. I’ve fully focussed on my next fight and then we can see where we are at.”
It is not common for lightweights from Aldershot to have a reputation in Vegas but Visioli has already noticed a change.
He said: “I'm known for just sparring Moton out there. Everyone knows who I am out there. It was mad. “The first day I got there, I went to a public gym, just a fitness place, no boxing and some kid came up to me and said, 'oh, you're the kid that sparred Curmel.'”
His spars with Moton were just one element of the 2025 which Visioli describes as a perfect year. He had five fights, five wins with two inside the distance. The fourth fight of the year was an American debut as he took on New York’s James Wilkins in Philadelphia before he closed 2025 with his first headline slot, outpointing Joe Howarth over 10 rounds to claim the English title at Indigo Arena, London.
He boxes for the first time in 2026 on Saturday night across east London at Copper Box as part of the undercard for George Liddard’s British and Commonwealth title defense against Tyler Denny.
“I couldn't have asked for anything better last year, especially ending it with an English title at 10-0 and with my first headline fight,” Visioli added. “It was the perfect year.
“I think I was one of Matchroom's most active fighters so I couldn't ask for anything better. So for this camp I thought I’d invest in myself and get out to America for sparring again, to get a change of scenery. The best sparring out is in Vegas so it was really good work, and that’s where I ran into Curmel again.
“It has been a very, very good camp so I’m just looking forward to putting everything into practice on fight night.
“Fights in east London feel like a home game for me because I’ve basically boxed and trained there my whole career with Repton. I know everyone from that scene and I’ll have a lot of fans coming over.”
