After failing in recent world title attempts, Lamont Roach and William Zepeda will get a shot at redemption.
Roach and Zepeda will square off for the vacant WBC lightweight title Saturday at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, the second show of “The Fight” series on DAZN and TNT (8 p.m. ET/1 a.m. BST).
Zepeda (33-1, 27 KOs) is The Ring’s No. 3-ranked lightweight. Roach previously held the WBA 130-pound title before vacating it in December, with his last two fights taking place at 135 and 140 pounds, respectively.
Zepeda, a 30-year-old Mexican, last fought in July of last year, losing a unanimous decision to then-WBC lightweight titleholder Shakur Stevenson.
Roach, also 30, of Washington, D.C., has fought to consecutive majority draws against then-WBA lightweight titleholder Gervonta Davis in March 2025 and Isaac Cruz in a 12-round junior welterweight bout in December.
Roach’s last win came in June 2024 when he beat Feargal McCrory by eighth-round stoppage to retain his WBA 130-pound title. Zepeda’s most recent victory was a majority decision in a rematch against former 130-pound titleholder Tevin Farmer in March 2025.
Stevenson (25-0, 11 KOs) was the most recent WBC lightweight titleholder before he was stripped in February after refusing to pay the $120,000 sanctioning fee for a 140-pound title fight, in which a WBC belt wasn’t on the line.
Fantasy
The picks are in from The Ring’s Mike Coppinger. Think you can beat him? Predict winners for prizes.
They said it
Roach: “I have a bundle of skills. I have a ton of will, heart like a lion and cajones like Godzilla. William Zepeda does as well. It's a hell of a clash. We can't wait to see how it turns out Saturday night.”
Zepeda: “We know Lamont. He's respectful outside the ring, but when he's inside that ring, he's a monster. He's a beast, and I'm the same way. It's going to be a war on Saturday.”
What are the odds?
Roach is a slight favorite at -150, according to DraftKings. Zepeda is a +120 underdog.
Must-see on the undercard
IBF lightweight champion Raymond Muratalla will make his second title defense against former 130-pound titleholder Robson Conceicao. The winner of Muratalla (24-0, 17 KOs), The Ring’s No. 2-ranked lightweight, and Conceicao (21-3-1, 10 KOs) would be in line for a unification bout against the winner of Roach vs. Zepeda.
Raul Curiel (17-0-1, 14 KOs), The Ring’s No. 7-ranked welterweight, faces veteran Quinton Randall (17-3-1, 4 KOs) in a 10-round bout. The main card opens with Charles Conwell (21-1, 16 KOs) returning after a 15-month layoff to face Paul Kroll (12-0-2, 8 KOs) in a 10-round junior middleweight bout.
